Therapy for Therapists

For people who have completed the Level 1 training, I offer therapy sessions, integrating somatic techniques, to psychologists and therapists. Having my own experience of therapy has been invaluable both for personal growth and for learning from the inside out, the practices I use with others.

We are all human, and have our own emotions, patterns of relating and expectations, which we cannot simply leave at the door of our consulting rooms. Despite the image of the white-coated ‘scientist-practitioner’ within psychology, we are not objective machines (thank goodness!) - we are fundamentally human. As such, we will bring pre-conscious material into every relationship, including our therapeutic relationships with clients.

In addition, our roles can be tough – we are meeting fellow humans exactly where they are, in their pain, grief, fear or rage, and this requires courage, clarity and centredness. Given that we have our own lives, challenges and traumas, having space to address our own ‘stuff’ can help us to relax our expectations of ourselves, and our clients, gently challenge any tendencies many of us have harboured (myself included!) to want to ‘fix’ or change our clients and settle our own nervous systems.

We have the opportunity to develop a more compassionate relationship to ourselves, including the parts of us that may feel burnout, resentful or burdened, so that we can gently care for ourselves and be fully present with our clients. We can open to the possibility of relationships that are accepting, connected and safe, and which can hold the ‘shadow’, the shame, the despair, as well as the hope, joy and wonderment of the resilience of humans and of this human existence.

It is said that we can only go as deep with our clients as we have gone with ourselves. But the journey inwards with a supportive other and a safe container, is worth doing - just for us.

Cost per session: $220

Cost for 5 session package: $950 (a saving of $30 per session)

Sessions are usually approximately monthly, which seems to suit most practitioners and their work commitments. Sessions do not replace regular therapy sessions, should they be required.
